EMERGE Library

Equipping Minoritized and Emerging Research Institutions to Grow their Enterprises

The EMERGE Library is the first national, peer-reviewed collection of plain language, collaboratively written research enterprise resources centering the voices and expertise of minority-serving institutions (MSIs) and emerging research institutions (ERIs). Identified through partnering institutions in with the program, the library collects diverse, practical resources to advance research infrastructure and capacity.

EMERGE Resources

EMERGE resources document best practices and strategies that MSIs and ERIs use to contribute to the U.S. research enterprise, covering various research operations topics. Designed for faculty, research staff, and leadership, they provide practical guidance tailored to specific institutional contexts.

Knowledge Articles: The Core of EMERGE Resources

Knowledge Articles make EMERGE Resources truly stand out by providing practical, impactful, and actionable guidance for the research enterprise. They are defined by:

  • Clear and Actionable Insights: Each 12-to-15-page guide is written in plain, accessible language and includes step-by-step guidance to help users implement strategies effectively.
  • Expertly Informed: Developed by teams with current or recent MSI/ERI experience, these guides reflect the unique contexts, challenges, and opportunities of these institutions. Special callouts, called "RD Says," allow authors to share wisdom from their lived experiences, including lessons from past successes and failures. These callouts "say the quiet parts out loud," offering candid insights and practical tips.
  • Rigorous Peer Review: Every article undergoes an expedited peer-review process led by New Opportunities for Research Development (NORD), ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality, relevance, and credibility.

A Collaborative Mission

The EMERGE Library welcomes contributions from those interested in advancing research development and infrastructure, fostering collaboration and inclusivity to support innovation across the research enterprise.
