Feasibility and Early Results of Providing Research Development Consulting Services To Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUS): Year 1 of the NORDP Consultants Pilot Project

This report documents the structure and highlights first year successes of the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP) Consultants Program Intensive Cohort Model. Describing the pilot project’s launch in the summer of 2021, program feasibility and challenges are discussed. The pilot cohort included four mission based Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs): Florida Memorial University, Morehouse School of Medicine, North Carolina A&T, and Spelman College. The report concludes with plans for outer years of the program.

Strategies For Building Capacity At MSIS For Advancing Research and Research Impacts

To address systemic barriers to inclusion, including bias, inequitable partnerships, and limited research support and service capacity, Spelman College, The National Organization of Research Development Professionals, and Advancing Research Impact in Society brought together MSI leaders to discuss their research experiences. The process convened 34 representatives across two virtual listening sessions in March and April 2023, and an in-person convening in June 2023 at Spelman College. Participants elevated the importance of celebrating successes at MSIs while also acknowledging the systemic barriers and challenges MSIs continue to face. The project was funded by the U.S. National Science Foundation through grant MCB-2236057.
