Biography

Barbara is the Director of Strategic Research Initiatives at the University of California, Santa Barbara where she conducts strategic analysis and planning for UCSB's research enterprise and professional development programming for faculty members. She also leads state and national programs to strengthen social science research at HSIs and facilitate inclusive STEM collaborations. She has a background in mixed-methods, interdisciplinary research, and expertise in social science and evaluation methods and analysis.

Her research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, the MacArthur Foundation, NOAA Sea Grant, the Social Science Research Council, and the Department of Education, among others, and she is co-author of the book "Funding Your Research in the Humanities and Social Sciences." She was a founding board member of the National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP), and she serves on two advisory committees at the National Science Foundation (NSF): The Committee on Equal Opportunities in Science and Engineering (CEOSE) and the Business Operations and Advisory Committee (BOAC).
