Biography

LeKita Scott Dawkins is a virtual funding and resource development consultant who also manages grants for Community Action Partnership of Ramsey and Washington counties in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Prior to these roles, she was Director of Foundation Relations and an adjunct instructor at Syracuse University.

LeKita is co-editor of “Journey to the Ph.D.: How to Navigate the Process as African Americans,” a guide and source of information for men and women of color considering the journey towards a terminal degree. She was a founding member of Sisters of the Academy (SOTA) Institute which aims to create an educational network of Black women in higher education to foster success in the areas of teaching, scholarly inquiry, and collaborative scholarship.

LeKita’s award-winning dissertation focused on successful fundraising strategies for Historically Black Colleges and Universities and her research development focused areas of specialization include training and mentorship for grant seeking, identifying funding opportunities, synthesizing information, and facilitating collaboration. A native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, LeKita received her BS in Elementary Education from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, her MEd in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University, and her PhD in Educational Leadership from Florida State University.
