Biography

Claudia is Director of Research Development at the University of Virginia School (UVA) of Data Science where she supports faculty and staff in developing their research and grant-seeking strategies. She has nearly 20 years of experience in proposal writing, faculty mentorship, project management, grant administration and higher education leadership. She has authored or co-authored successful proposals to the National Science Foundation, Keck Foundation, Mellon Foundation, US Department of Education; and has coordinated interdisciplinary proposal teams ranging from 3 to 12 faculty.

She is founding director of the Data Justice Academy, a summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates program for students from minority-serving institutions. Prior to UVA, Claudia served as Director of Sponsored Programs and later Associate Provost for Research at Spelman College. She has also worked at Trinity University, the University of Texas at San Antonio, and Colgate University. She received her PhD in sociology from the Johns Hopkins University and her BA summa cum laude in Latin American Studies from Mount Holyoke College.
