Susan was the Director of Research Development and Sponsored Research at the Santa Fe Institute in Santa Fe, New Mexico from 2018 until 2024, and has also served as the Director of Research Development Services at the University of California Merced and as a Program Funding Manager and Program Officer for the California HIV/AIDS Research Program and the California Program on Access to Care, both California statewide research funding agencies. She was the founding Secretary of NORDP as well as a founding member of the NORDP Board of Directors and a Charter NORDP Fellow. She has served as reviewer for the National Science Foundation and other funding agencies.
Susan also serves as a Co-PI for the Center for Research Excellence and Diversity in Team Science (CREDITS) at UC Santa Barbara, an integrated research and training program to enhance diverse and equitable team scholarship. She has consulted, published, and presented extensively on assessment of research development practices, grant getting strategies, faculty development, diversity and broadening participation, effective research administration, and team scholarship. Susan holds BA and JD degrees from the University of California Davis.
